KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): Mulpha International Bhd said its One&Only Hayman Island hotel along Australia's Great Barrier Reef "incurred significant damage" last Tuesday (March 28) from Cyclone Debbie.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, Mulpha said all One&Only Hayman Island guests and staff on the island were safe with no injuries sustained.

"All guests have been evacuated from the island by private charter. The full extent of the damage will be assessed in the coming weeks once an expert project team has arrived on the island and inspected the property.

"The resort will be closed while reinstatement works are undertaken with the final timing of its re-opening to be confirmed once the extent of damage and rectification are clearly known," Mulpha said.

Mulpha said the hotel is covered under a property insurance policy, which included protection from the cyclone's impact on the hotel's business for up to two years. — theedgemarkets.com
