KUALA LUMPUR (June 14): Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese state-owned integrated construction firm, PowerChina Group to jointly bid for infrastructure projects in Malaysia.
The MoU is one of the two deals inked today between EcoWorld and PowerChina Group,with the other being a joint-venture to develop phase 2 of Eco Business Park V in Puncak Alam, Selangor.
According to EcoWorld group president and CEO Datuk Chang Khim Wah, PowerChina Group has a long track record in building dams and also well versed in developing green energy infrastructure.
“PowerChina Group is quite advanced with solar energy technologies. Therefore, there will be quite a lot of technology transfers to us [EcoWorld] as well,” Chang said at a press conference after the signing ceremony today at Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
“EcoWorld can offer local knowledge in terms of technology and infrastructure that suits the Malaysian landscape,” added Chang.
On concerns about an influx of Chinese companies and labour, Chang said equal opportunities will be provided to Malaysian and Chinese contractors to tender for the projects.
“Ultimately, when Chinese firms set up factories here, most employments will consist of Malaysians,” stressed Chang.
Also speaking at the press conference, vice president (Asia Pacific) of PowerChina Group Eason Ho said: “The combined knowledge and expertise with EcoWorld can facilitate some Chinese companies to set up their businesses here and contribute to the economic development of Malaysia.”
Meanwhile, PowerChina Group will be setting up an Asia Pacific headquarters here in Kuala Lumpur.
