- Mohd Azharuddin is leaving, following the end of tenure at the government-owned company.
KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd on Tuesday announced the departure of its current president and group chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, effective July 14.
Prasarana group chief operating officer Amir Hamdan will take over as acting president and group CEO from July 15, 2025.
Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad has been appointed as its new group chairman, effective Aug 1, 2025.
Mohd Azharuddin is leaving, following the end of tenure at the government-owned company that owns and operates Malaysia’s public transportation systems and services.
Meanwhile, Mohd Nasir replaces Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, who vacated the chairman position in April this year. Mohd Nasir brings extensive leadership experience, having previously served as chairman of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (KL:CIMB), and as CEO of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB).
Jamaludin and Mohd Azharuddin are credited with several achievements during their tenure, including recording Prasarana’s highest-ever daily ridership of 1.5 million passengers for its rail and bus services at the end of 2024. They also successfully reduced the number of rail service disruptions from 255 in 2022, to 71 in 2024, along with the introduction of new initiatives, such as the Rapid On-Demand (ROD) van service.
Commenting on the appointment of Mohd Nasir and Amir, Prasarana’s board and senior management said they are confident that they will help improve service quality and support the government’s goal of reaching a 40% public transport usage rate by 2030.
Prasarana, fully owned by the Ministry of Finance, manages Malaysia’s urban rail systems—including three LRT lines, the KL Monorail, and MRT services — and operates bus networks in five states. The company also offers consulting and commercial services, and develops transit-oriented projects.
