KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 18): Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) has halted East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) works near the Gombak Toll Plaza after a temporary steel canopy collapsed and hit a passing car on the Batu Caves–bound stretch of Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) on Tuesday.
In a statement, MRL said this is to facilitate local authorities' investigations into the incident.
The canopy was built to prevent construction debris from falling onto the road and to facilitate work.
MRL said construction of the temporary canopy structures for road under bridge works was completed on Oct 20, 2025, and removal was scheduled for Nov 20, 2025, pending approvals from relevant agencies.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said it received a call at 1.47pm.
Seven personnel from the Selayang station were dispatched and found that steel structures had fallen onto a car.
The woman driver, in her 40s, was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived.
Earlier this month, MRL announced that the ECRL project has achieved 88.08% overall progress following the successful completion of the initial phase of civil works along the alignment from Kelantan to the Gombak Integrated Terminal. It said it was on track to complete construction works for the first phase of the ECRL by the end of 2026.
