PETALING JAYA (Dec 10):  I-Bhd, the developer of i-City, has announced a collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to focus on talent development, artificial intelligence (AI) research, and experiential learning within the i-City ecosystem sited in Shah Alam, Selangor.

In a statement on Tuesday, UiTM will work with I-Bhd to integrate structured internship programmes, real-time industry projects, and continuing professional development (CPD)-certified technical workshops into the AI World Experience Centre. Located within the ICT-based urban development, the centre is expected to serve as a hub for humanoid robotics and AI education.

The partnership aligns with Malaysia’s goal of becoming an AI-driven nation by 2030, as outlined by the National AI Office, and supports the government’s AI Action Plan 2026–2030.

Through joint research initiatives, the plan is to embed R&D across the AI World Experience Centre and i-City’s urban infrastructure, including areas such as humanoid robotics, AI mobility, smart systems integration, and AI-powered wellness solutions.

Technologies developed through the collaboration are anticipated to be deployed commercially via Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS), predictive maintenance, and the i-City SuperApp, positioning i-City as a site for practical applications of urban AI.

“Through this partnership, we aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice. UiTM students will gain hands-on access to real-world AI and robotics systems within a fully operational smart city,” said I-Bhd chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong.

UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Shahrin Sahib added: “This collaboration gives our students access to technologies shaping future urban environments. More than internships, this provides exposure to an AI-driven urban model that is already operational”.

With AI-powered towers, AI Wellness Suites, and integrated RaaS offerings, i-City is expected to function as a testbed for real-world AI applications. The collaboration aims to support the development of industry-aligned graduates, and contribute to Malaysia’s target of increasing AI’s contribution to its gross domestic product (GDP), which is projected at RM30 billion annually by 2030.

The AI World Experience Centre is scheduled to open on Dec 18, and represents a convergence of education, industry, and infrastructure to support innovation, skills development, and the deployment of AI technologies.
