PETALING JAYA (Dec 12): Sunway Malls, the retail arm of Sunway Bhd (KL:SUNWAY), has officially opened Sunway Square Mall on Friday.
Sunway Square Mall is a four-storey mall that spans 320,000 sq ft, comprises 130 shops and 3,000 integrated parking bays. Sunway Square Mall is 100% leased with 95% of the shops currently operating.
Its anchor tenants include Village Grocer, BUMP Bouldering, The Library by BookXcess, TGV Cinemas, KKV, COUNT and Tutu Toe Dance Academy. The mall has been opened to the public since Dec 11.
During the opening ceremony, Sunway Malls chief executive officer HC Chan said, “With Sunway Square Mall, Sunway now has a portfolio of 11 malls in Malaysia, marking the first time our tally has breached beyond the 10 malls mark”.
He added that the mall has been designed to emphasise on leisure, entertainment, and food and beverages (F&B).
“The decision to have a larger retail footprint dedicated to food stemmed from insights gained across our malls, whereby we observed a robust F&B performance persisting after the pandemic. Due to continuous resilient out-of-home dining, F&B outlets in Sunway Square Mall now make up 54% by lots and 36% by net lettable area, well above the national mall average.”
Sunway Square Mall is part of the larger mixed-use development—the RM1.8 billion Sunway Square—in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, Selangor. Spanning 2.3 million sq ft, it comprises Sunway Square Mall, Sunway Square Corporate Towers, an extension of Sunway University and Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre.
The Sunway Square Corporate Towers, with approximately one million sq ft in total, comprises Tower 1 (21 office floors) and Tower 2 (23 office floors). The corporate towers are Grade A office buildings and have obtained LEED Gold and GreenRE Platinum certifications.
The education component, Sunway University, spans 700,000 sq ft and is an extension of the existing Sunway University campus. It has the capacity to cater over 8,000 students and will house the School of Arts and School of Business.
Meanwhile, the Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre will feature proscenium and experimental theatres that can accommodate up to 1,200 people.

During the same event, Chan also gave an update on its other malls. “In 2025, we saw a total of 500 shops, both new and existing ones being renovated and fitted across all our malls. In totality, over one million sq ft of retail space, equivalent to the size of Sunway Velocity Mall is refreshed yearly. This signified an exceptionally strong and healthy demand for Sunway’s quality retail space.”
Sunway Malls has 11 malls in its portfolio, which are Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Velocity, Sunway Carnival, Sunway Putra, Sunway Big Box, Sunway 163, Sunway Kluang, Sunway Giza, Sunway Wangsawalk, Sunway Citrine and Sunway Square. Meanwhile, its upcoming ones are Sunway Ipoh (4Q2027), Sunway Pier in Port Klang (1Q2028), Sunway Seremban Sentral (2028) and Sunway RTS in Johor Bahru (2029).
”We envisage to scale up the number of Sunway Malls to 15 in the near future, as we further amplify the Sunway Malls brand experiences across key markets in the country,” Chan said.
