KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 13): The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) officially launched SinggahKL 2026, the fifth edition of its signature guided architectural tour. Scheduled for Feb 7 and 8, the tour will focus on the theme “Future Culture” and is open to the public.

“SinggahKL celebrates Malaysian architectural heritage alongside contemporary design. We hope to deepen appreciation and inspire a sense of responsibility towards our built environment because when people understand architecture, they care for their cities more deeply,” said PAM president Adrianta Aziz.

The tour will cover 20 buildings across nine property categories including Media City Angkasapuri, Sama Square, Saloma Link, Pusat PERMATA Kurnia, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), Hyatt Centric, +n by UR-MU, UR-MU The Toffee, Tuah 1895 @ BBCC, Arena Sukan Kuala Lumpur, The Courts @ KLGCC, The Graph Hotel, Dua Menjalara, TAR UMT Arena, The MET Corporate Towers, Wei-Ling Gallery, Mitec and GDP Campus.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with architects to learn about the design of selected projects, including buildings not usually open to the public. Registration dates will be announced soon.

SinggahKL 2026 is supported by Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) and held in collaboration with KL Architectural Festival 2026 (KLAF2026).

SinggahKL convenor Almaz Rahim added that PAM hopes to expand the programme to other Malaysian cities, such as Putrajaya, George Town, Johor Bahru, and Kuching, with potential participation from PAM’s Northern, Southern, East Coast, Sabah, and Sarawak chapters.

“We hope to bring this event to other cities in Malaysia. We have a template that can be shared and hope the other chapters of PAM will take this on,” he said.

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) chief secretary Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, Ministry of Tourism Policy and International Relations Division secretary Yong Ee Chin highlighted the tour’s value, “By promoting initiatives like SinggahKL, we are in effect articulating the city’s identity and economic value while fostering awareness of building conservation and heritage preservation.”

Motac noted the tour’s strong potential as a high-value city tourism product, showcasing Kuala Lumpur’s evolution from colonial heritage to modern architectural innovation.
