KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): Malaysia and Singapore reaffirmed their commitment to deepen economic cooperation under the Johor–Singapore partnership during a courtesy call between the Minister of Economy of Malaysia, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, and Singapore’s Minister for National Development, Chee Hong Tat.

Both sides emphasized that the partnership is built on long-term trust, policy continuity, and shared benefits. They welcomed ongoing collaboration in key areas such as high-value investments, digitalisation, sustainable development, and talent development under the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), according to the Ministry of Economy statement on Friday.

The ministers confirmed the JS-SEZ as a cornerstone of bilateral economic relations, noting its progression from planning to implementation.

"The JS-SEZ will combine Johor’s scale and resources with Singapore’s capital, technology, and global connectivity to attract high-value investments, strengthen supply chains, and create quality jobs for communities on both sides of the Causeway," read the statement.

Malaysia is finalizing the JS-SEZ Investment Blueprint and Masterplan, which will outline the long-term vision, priority sectors, and an implementation roadmap, with a target launch in March 2026.

The ministers also discussed strengthening the Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee (JSCMC) to provide clearer oversight and focus on economic cooperation, particularly within the JS-SEZ framework. The final governance structure will be presented at the next JSCMC meeting in Singapore.

Minister Akmal Nasrullah expressed confidence that through disciplined execution and sustained cooperation, the JS-SEZ and JSCMC will deliver meaningful outcomes for businesses, workers, and communities in both nations.
