PETALING JAYA (Feb 13): Tropicana Corp Bhd, through its philanthropic arm Tropicana Foundation, recently collaborated with VitaHealth Malaysia to bring festive renewal and essential support to two elderly care homes in Selangor as Chinese New Year approached.

The CNY Community Care Programme—now an annual fixture—saw 20 volunteers provide assistance to 53 residents at Yi Xing USJ Old Folks Home and Rumah Charis Home for the Aged. The initiative combined spring cleaning and companionship with over RM13,000 in contributions, including health supplements, dry provisions, and ang pows.

Programme director of Tropicana Foundation and senior general manager of group corporate communications at Tropicana Corp Bhd Serena Lim, said the initiative was more than just a conventional donation drive.

“Chinese New Year is closely tied to renewal and togetherness. For elderly residents, the season carries deep emotional meaning, often linked to family traditions and the comfort of a well-prepared home. Through this programme, we focused on restoring that sense of warmth—not only through essential supplies, but through presence and shared effort,” she said.

Lim added that the foundation’s outreach approach has increasingly prioritised engagement and responsiveness to on-the-ground needs, aligning with the group’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.

VitaHealth (Malaysia & Singapore) CEO Dr KS Beh, who volunteered with seven team members, said the collaboration reflected shared values between both organisations.

“For more than 79 years, VitaHealth has focused on supporting healthier and happier lives. This initiative reflects that commitment—encouraging wellbeing while strengthening community bonds. We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Tropicana Foundation in delivering meaningful support during the festive season,” she said.

Supporting established community homes

Yi Xing USJ Old Folks Home, established in December 2016, provides shelter, meals and medical support to the destitute elderly, many referred by hospitals and the authorities.

The home accommodates up to 29 residents at any one time and operates under the Yixin Elderly Welfare and Shelter Association.Rumah Charis, founded in 1988 by Reverend Teo How Ken, is a non-profit Christian-based organisation serving the elderly as well as children and youth through its expanded ministries. Currently managed by Suzanne Lee, the home emphasises active living, continued learning and community engagement for its residents.

Beyond the two homes, Tropicana Foundation and the Tropicana Alam team (which manages the developer's 362-acre Puncak Alam township) also participated in a large-scale gotong-royong initiative on Jan 31 in Bandar Puncak Alam. Organised in collaboration with Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Selangor (MPKS), the clean-up effort drew 532 participants, including 43 volunteers from Tropicana Corp.

Established in 2011, Tropicana Foundation supports social, educational, health and environmental causes under Tropicana Corp’s ESG strategy. Over the years, the foundation has contributed more than RM26 million towards charitable and community-based initiatives.

Looking ahead, the foundation plans to continue its outreach efforts in 2026, including a Ramadan initiative focused on supporting children in need.
