KUALA LUMPUR (April 23): The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM)’s Property Surveying Division held its inaugural Property Surveying Awards, recognising outstanding contributions across the profession for the first time.

Held in conjunction with the 33rd National Real Estate Convention (NREC) on Tuesday at the KLGCC Convention Centre (Sime Darby Convention Centre) here, the awards recognised both members and non-members, including individuals and organisations, for their contributions to the advancement of the property surveying profession, education and practice in Malaysia.

The initiative, introduced by the current Property Surveying Committee, with EdgeProp as media partner, is intended to highlight the scope of the property surveying profession and address common misconceptions regarding its roles and functions.

It also seeks to provide a unified platform for practitioners across different sectors and regions, while acknowledging contributions that support the development of the profession.

“Outside of our fraternity, not many people actually know what a property surveyor does. In fact, it often adds to confusion when there are also land surveyors, quantity surveyors and building surveyors. To the layman, it can all sound like the same thing. Yet in reality, these are specialisations of a single profession,” said RISM fellow Khaidzir Abdul Rasip in his welcoming address as floor manager.

“It is a branding that has evolved over time to better define and unify a profession that spans valuation, estate agency, and property management, across both public and private sectors.

“Today, we are not just honouring excellence — we are rewriting the narrative of our profession. Let this be the beacon that shows the nation who we are, what we do, and why property surveying matters,” he added.

Spanning 14 categories, the key awardees included:

*Property Surveying Firm of the Year: Knight Frank Malaysia
*Local Authority of the Year: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)
*Corporate Body of the Year: Permodalan Nasional Bhd

Other individual recipients included:
