GEORGE TOWN (Sept 8): The Waterfront Shoppes (TWS), the retail component of the 4.1 million sq ft integrated seafront development The Light City in Penang, is set to soft-open on Oct 29, 2026.

The Light City is a joint venture development between IJM Corp Bhd (KL:IJM) and Singapore-headquartered Perennial Holdings Private Limited.

The 1.6 million sq ft TWS features around 300 retail spaces across four levels, making it Penang’s largest shopping mall upon its opening in October, according to a press statement issued on Tuesday.

The waterfront destination is integrated with the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC), the state's largest convention venue with a capacity of over 10,000 guests.

"Our vision for TWS is to create a destination that brings together the best of Penang by the water. The destination reflects the island’s distinctive food, culture, heritage and sense of community while presenting them through a fresh, contemporary lens," said perennial managing director of retail management and China commercial management Jasmine Chua in the statement.
