KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 9): Hektar Real Estate Investment Trust (KL:HEKTAR) announced that Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin, 69, has been appointed chairman, effective immediately.

Jamil’s appointment fills the position, which has been vacant since 2023, when then-chairman Hasli Hashim resigned.

In a bourse filing, Hektar REIT said Jamil has held several senior positions at different public-listed companies. In Putera Capital Bhd, he oversaw businesses spanning manufacturing, construction, property development and engineering as managing director and chief executive officer.

He later served as corporate adviser at KUB Malaysia Bhd, now renamed JAG Capital Bhd (KL:JAGCPTL).

In 2006, Jamil served as chief executive officer of Halal Industry Development Corp (HDC), a company wholly-owned by the Minister of Finance (Incorporated) [MoF Inc] until his retirement in 2018.

Hektar REIT said he has also served on the boards of companies in Malaysia and overseas across sectors including financial services, manufacturing, aviation and aerospace, as well as advisory services.

Jamil is also currently independent non-executive director of hotel and resort management company Avillion Bhd (KL:AVI).

Shares of Hektar REIT ended down half a sen or 1% to 51 sen on Tuesday, giving the REIT a market capitalisation of RM361.7 million.
