The number of active cases jumped from 28 reported on Wednesday, putting it one case away from becoming a red zone.

Of the new cases, 31 involved foreign nationals, according to health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

"But if Malaysians work together and collectively practise social responsibility and social discipline by complying with the SOP, we can reduce the R0 further and reduce [the number of new] cases to one figure.”

With the two new deaths, the death toll in the country stands at 111, representing a mortality rate of 1.64%.

The previous low was on March 11 — seven days before the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced — with 20 new positive cases.

Subsequently, a total of 28 people linked to this cluster were found and tested, from which the dozen positive cases were found. Nine were found negative, while the remaining seven were still awaiting their test results.

This brought the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 6,535.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur has the highest number of active Covid-19 cases at 447, followed by Selangor (222), Sarawak (191) and Johor (156).

Public Bank said its fixed deposit rates will also be correspondingly adjusted by 50bps.

Meanwhile, 83 patients were discharged today, bringing total recoveries in the country to 4,567.
