The tax treatment proposals were made to ensure that taxation is fair and that Malaysia remains business-friendly, and not just to increase the country's revenue, said the Ministry of Finance’s head of Tax Division (International II) Ezleezan Othman.

Of the new cases, only 85 cases or 1.7% were in categories three, four and five, while the remaining 4,894 cases or 98.3% were in categories one and two.

Ismail said the allocations announced for various projects, programmes and initiatives will also benefit the people in the Iskandar Malaysia economic region. 

The existing restrictive conditions had caused some homestay owners to forego applying for the grant.
