KUALA LUMPUR: Building and housing industry players welcomed the move by the government to rationalise and streamline the role of federal agencies involved in public housing under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).
Selangor Dredging Berhad managing director Teh Lip Kim said the proposed plan would propel Malaysia to be a world-class nation. "However, the delivery system has to be in place and we will need to see a formal and coherent plan to carry out these initiatives," she told Bernama.
Entry Construction Sdn Bhd general manager Razi Zain said rationalising housing provision with only one federal agency responsible for the provision of federally funded housing and the private sector playing a greater role in the effort, would ensure more people being able to own a house.
He said public-private sector cooperation would also enable the government to better monitor the construction industry, so that there would be no indiscriminate pricing of building materials, burdening contractors and
developers that could result in stalled projects.
The move to rationalise housing provision is one of the initiatives by the government to facilitate the plan to provide 78,000 new affordable public housing units nationwide under the 10MP. Low-cost public housing units will be provided for qualified individuals and families with a household income of less than RM2,500 per month.- Bernama
