PETALING JAYA (Aug 27): Sabah is preparing for a water shortage as the current heatwave is expected to last until December, reported The Malaysian Insight.
The Meteorological Department said Sabah was experiencing unusually hot weather as temperatures hit 32°C to 40°C.
State Infrastructure Development Minister Peter Anthony noted that the prolonged hot weather will lower river water levels, while water levels in the state's catchment areas have fallen significantly.
The whole state is expected to be affected by the heat, but areas that will be hit hardest are Banggi Island, Pitas, Menumbok, Beaufort and Kuala Penyu, he said.
Anthony added water tankers will be sent to areas badly affected by water shortages.
He advised consumers to save water and store it for future use.
