KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): Rains may be welcomed during this hot spell but a heavy shower in the Pearl of the Orient this morning resulted in traffic jams.

According to a report by The Star English daily, some of the areas affected in Penang were Jalan Terengganu, Jalan P Ramlee, the junction of Lebuh Kimberley and Jalan Sungai Ujong, Jalan Macalister, Jalan Anson and Jalan Mcnair.

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) announced via its Facebook page that as at 8.30am, the water level had risen in certain places on the island but the situation was still under control.

The council also posted in a 9.08am update that Jalan Tun Dr Awang, Pulau Tikus at the junction of Jalan Kebun Bunga and Persiaran Kuari were flooded but still passable to vehicles, reported the daily publication.
