KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 1): Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad, former president-cum-group chief executive officer of Permodalan Nasional Bhd, has been appointed non-independent and non-executive chairman of Sime Darby Bhd.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Sime Darby said that Rahman, 50, had been redesignated chairman from non-independent non-executive director with effect yesterday. He joined Sime Darby as a director in September last year.

His appointment confirms a report by theedgemarkets.com, in August, citing sources that Rahman may be appointed Sime Darby chairman.

PNB owns a majority 51.1% stake in Sime Darby.

Rahman has left his post in Malaysia's largest fund manager by asset value upon the expiry of his three-year contract in September, which he had assumed on Oct 1, 2016.

Sime Darby shares closed unchanged at RM2.27 yesterday, valuing the company at RM15.44 billion. Some 4.09 million shares were traded.
