KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): The Malaysian REIT Managers Association (MRMA) has appointed Derek Teh Wan Wei (pictured) as chairman of the association at its annual general meeting.

Teh replaced Leong Kit May in the executive committee (Exco) last Thursday, who served as chairman for the association from June 3, 2024 to June 11, 2026.

Leong will remain in the MRMA exco, as the immediate past chairman.

“As the unified voice of Malaysia’s REIT managers, (the) MRMA will represent members’ interests by working closely with the government and regulators for functional regulations, viable structures and tax harmonisation,” Teh said in a statement on Monday.

“We will also encourage and promote the REIT industry to position M-REITs as a recognised income asset class for Malaysian and international investors, and to strengthen M-REIT competitiveness regionally and internationally,” Teh further commented.

As of 2026, there are 20 M-REITs listed under the SC’s guidelines on listed real estate investment trusts, totalling a net market capitalisation of RM55 billion. The MRMA represents all 20 members, alongside two additional unlisted REITs.
