PUTRAJAYA (Aug 6): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (pictured) has been arrested tonight. MACC said a statement will be issued later.

Earlier it was reported that Lim had arrived at the MACC headquarters here at 9.10pm while rumours swirled about his possible arrest over the Penang tunnel project.

The Star Online reported that Lim arrived in a white Vellfire.

According to The Star, scores of reporters had been camping out at the MACC since afternoon following talk that Lim, who is also the former Penang Chief Minister, would be arrested over the RM6.3 billion project.

On June 30, the MACC detained a former senior official of the Penang Port Commission (PPC) to assist with the investigation into elements of corruption of the undersea tunnel project.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, as well as several current and former State Executive Council members, had also been called to provide their statements to the MACC regarding the megaproject.
