GEORGE TOWN (June 14): The first affordable housing project by the Penang state housing board will be located in Bayan Baru, reported Free Malaysia Today.

According to Penang housing, local government and town and country planning committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, there will be a total of 1,267 housing units – 253 low- and medium-cost units and 1,014 affordable units – to be built on a 7.6-acre site in Bukit Gedung.

The low- and medium-cost units with a built-up of 700 sq ft will be priced at RM72,500 each while the affordable housing units with a built-up of 850 sq ft will be selling at RM270,000 each.

Other than the affordable housing component, there will also be a three-storey commercial block housing 21 units.

Other facilities include a swimming pool, children’s playground, gymnasium and study room. 

He said the construction will begin next year and is estimated to be completed by 2025.
