KUALA LUMPUR (May 9): The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) Malaysia has welcomed the government’s revision of the Sewerage Capital Contribution (SCC) rates, which took effect on March 1.
The new structure, announced by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), introduces a five-tier system based on unit pricing. SCC charges now range from RM1,000 for units priced at RM80,000 and below, up to 1% of the selling price for homes priced at RM500,000 and above.
Rehda president Datuk Ho Hon Sang said the reduction in SCC rates is a positive step for the industry and homebuyers.
“Rehda views the move [as] a positive step for all industry stakeholders, especially homebuyers,” said Ho. “It also reflects the federal government’s commitment to listening to industry feedback and ensuring sustainable development.”
He added, “We hope that the reduction will enable developers to ultimately pass on the savings to homebuyers. We also urge both the federal and state-level government agencies to review other contribution charges affecting the industry, ensuring that they remain fair and reflective of current market conditions.”
Rehda said the change reflects efforts to support sustainable development and address affordability concerns in the housing sector.
