KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 3): Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, Johor, the 2,000-acre flagship township by master community developer Sunway Property, has been awarded the Platinum distinction at the Smart Township Malaysia 2025 Awards, organised by PLANMalaysia under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
In a statement on Monday, the group noted that this marks the first time a developer-led township has received Platinum recognition in a programme traditionally reserved for local councils and government agencies. The achievement highlights the growing contribution of the private sector in advancing national urban development and sustainability agenda.
The award was presented during the Majlis Sambutan Hari Perancangan Bandar Sedunia (HPBS) Tahun 2025 Peringkat Kebangsaan, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Haji Yusof.
The Smart Township Malaysia 2025 Awards are part of the Rangka Kerja Bandar Pintar Malaysia (2019–2025), a national framework that supports Malaysia’s Smart Nation 2040 vision. Under Malaysia Standard ISO 37122:2019, PLANMalaysia assesses township initiatives based on seven key pillars—Smart Government, Smart Economy, Smart People, Smart Living, Smart Mobility, Smart Environment, and Smart Digital Infrastructure.
Positioned as a future-ready and sustainable township within the Iskandar Malaysia corridor, Sunway City Iskandar Puteri continues to evolve as a connected, healthy and secure environment for residents to live, learn, work, play and stay.
The Platinum recognition establishes Sunway City Iskandar Puteri as a model for Malaysia’s next generation of smart and sustainable townships, reflecting how developer-driven innovation can complement national urbanisation efforts.
It also underscores Sunway Property’s alignment with the Smart City Malaysia 2.0 and Smart Nation 2040 frameworks, paving the way for greater collaboration with federal agencies in sustainable urban transformation.
Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, one of Malaysia’s largest township projects, carries a gross development value (GDV) of RM30 billion across 2,000 acres.
The low-density, integrated development features 40% open and green spaces and is among Johor’s first provisionally certified green townships. Strategically located just 5km from the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link via the Coastal Highway Southern Link, the township is envisioned as a key component of Malaysia’s southern development corridor.
