KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 25): Transport Minister Anthony Loke has expressed disappointment over repeated breakdowns on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line, which has disrupted travel for thousands of Klang Valley commuters on Tuesday.

“I take the recent disruptions on the Kelana Jaya LRT line very seriously, especially as they come at the start of Ramadan,” he said in a Facebook post.

The minister has demanded accountability from the rail operator. “The public deserves a service that is efficient and reliable. I have directed the Prasarana CEO to explain the situation at the post-cabinet meeting and to present an immediate recovery plan."

"At the same time, I have asked the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to investigate these incidents and, if operational weaknesses are found, to take appropriate action against Prasarana," he added.

His remarks came after commuters faced a second technical glitch on Tuesday afternoon, which compounded frustrations following a morning rush-hour snarl that had rippled across the network.

At 3pm, Rapid KL reported sudden delays due to a malfunction involving both train doors and platform screen doors at the KLCC station, one of the busiest stops on the line. While technicians resolved the fault within minutes and normal service resumed by 3.15pm, the brief halt triggered significant congestion that was expected to worsen during the evening peak period.

Hence, by 4.15pm, Rapid KL warned of severe crowding at major interchange stations and urged passengers to consider alternative routes, including bypassing the LRT–MRT interchange when heading to KLCC.

To avoid bottlenecks, commuters on the MRT Kajang Line were advised to switch at Tun Razak Exchange, connect to the MRT Putrajaya Line, and disembark at Persiaran KLCC station—a short walk from the Petronas Twin Towers.

The afternoon's disruption followed a 90-minute delay earlier in the day, when a manually operated train caused a bottleneck between Asia Jaya and Taman Bahagia stations around 8am. Shuttle services were activated to ease the backlog, but knock-on effects spilled into the late morning.

Rapid KL has issued an apology for the repeated disruptions and thanked passengers for their patience.
