PETALING JAYA (April 10): Menara Merdeka 118 is set to be recognised by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department as the first building in Malaysia to implement the Automatic Fire Monitoring System (SPKA), marking a new benchmark in high-rise fire safety standards.
The upcoming recognition highlights the tower’s adoption of advanced monitoring technology designed to enhance early detection and response capabilities in the event of a fire.
In conjunction with this, Menara Merdeka 118 will also be awarded the Fire Certificate (FC), signifying full compliance with Malaysia’s fire safety requirements.
Together, the SPKA recognition and the FC endorsement underscore the building’s adherence to current regulatory standards while positioning it as a reference point for safety practices in modern high-rise developments.
A ceremony to commemorate the achievement will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11.30am on Level 98 of the Park Hyatt Hotel Kuala Lumpur, located within Menara Merdeka 118.
The event will be officiated by Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Hassan 'As'ari Omar, together with PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim.
According to the statement, the dual recognition is expected to set a new benchmark for high-rise building safety in Malaysia, reflecting the integration of modern fire monitoring systems and reinforcing Menara Merdeka 118’s positioning as a tower built to world-class safety standards.
