PETALING JAYA (April 15): Menara Merdeka 118 has received its Fire Certificate (FC) from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), confirming that the 118-storey tower has met all fire safety requirements and compliance standards prescribed under Malaysian regulations.
According to its press statement, the certification affirms the fire and life safety framework implemented across the 118-storey tower, covering its systems, infrastructure and operational readiness.
In conjunction with the FC, Menara Merdeka 118 has also implemented the new Automated Fire Monitoring System (SPKA), which enables real-time monitoring and enhanced coordination with JBPM during emergencies.
The FC was presented by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur director, senior assistant fire commissioner Hassan As'ari Omar.
"The Metropolitan Fire Department, together with the Malaysia Supertall Secretariat (MSS), has taken the lead in ensuring fire safety standards are upheld so that this super high-rise development consistently adheres to world-class fire safety requirements," said Hassan As'ari.
"The inclusion of systems such as SPKA further enhances preparedness and strengthens coordination during emergencies," he added.
PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim said the FC marks a significant milestone for the development.
"As a landmark development, our responsibility extends beyond compliance — it is about ensuring that safety is embedded in every aspect of the building's design, systems, and operations,” he noted.
“Ultimately, this is about giving our tenants, visitors, and the wider public confidence that when they are in Menara Merdeka 118, they are in an environment that meets world-class standards not only in its facilities, but also in how it is managed and protected."
Menara Merdeka 118 is among the key developments supported by the MSS, a newly established fire safety organisation in Asia for buildings exceeding 300m, which facilitates collaboration between building owners and JBPM on fire safety and emergency management.
The FC adds to a growing list of recognitions for the tower. Menara Merdeka 118 recently became the first building in Malaysia to receive MD Nexus recognition, positioning it as a platform for high-value digital enterprises.
The tower also holds LEED Platinum certification, triple Platinum recognition under GreenRE and the Green Building Index, and WELL Core Platinum Certification — the highest recognition under the global WELL Building Standard.
