KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): Sunway Construction Group Bhd (KL:SUNCON) said it has secured additional change orders worth RM664.4 million for two data centre-related projects in Johor, bringing the total contract value to RM865.6 million.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Wednesday (June 17), the group said its wholly owned subsidiary, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd (SCSB), had on the same day accepted the change orders to project service requests previously secured on April 21 from a US-headquartered multinational technology corporation.

Construction for the projects commenced on April 21, 2026, with one data centre project scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027 and the other in the second quarter of 2028.

SunCon noted that the projects are subject to typical construction-related risks, including fluctuations in material prices, but said these risks are expected to be mitigated by SCSB’s experience and expertise. It added that the contracts are expected to contribute positively to earnings from 2026 onwards.

Year to date, SunCon has secured RM4.2 billion worth of new orders, including the latest change orders, bringing its total outstanding order book to RM8.8 billion.

SunCon’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026 rose 56.4% to RM118.41 million from RM75.72 million a year earlier, driven by stronger contributions across all segments.

Revenue for the quarter, however, fell 27% to RM1.02 billion from RM1.4 billion, mainly due to lower construction contributions. The higher base in the previous year was supported by accelerated progress in the Rapid Transit System Link project and several data centre jobs.

Trading in SunCon shares was halted for one hour from 9am to 10am on Thursday. The stock last traded at RM7.43, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM9.89 billion.
