PETALING JAYA (Sept 28): Property purchases under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme exceeded RM5 billion between Oct 1, 2024 and Aug 31, 2026, according to Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Chiew Choon Man. (pictured)

They represented the largest reported component of the RM8.85 billion in economic value that Chiew attributed to the programme over the 23-month period. He also cited RM3.82 billion in fixed deposits.

The programme received 7,650 new applications across its Platinum, Gold, Silver and Special Economic Zone categories during the period.

China accounted for 3,847 applications, followed by Taiwan with 1,054, Hong Kong with 324, Singapore with 287 and the United States with 284. The application figures do not show how many applicants were approved or how many properties were purchased. Chiew did not provide a breakdown of the reported property purchases by location or buyer nationality.

Chiew said in a statement that the MM2H One Stop Centre plans overseas sales missions in Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea. He added that the ministry had met MM2H consultants and representatives from the real estate, education, healthcare and banking sectors at the 14th MM2H National Workshop 2026 to gather feedback.
