KUALA LUMPUR: Naim Holdings Bhd (Naim) on June 28 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with several parties in China and Sarawak to develop Panyu-Miri Smart Cities (PMSC), it announced to Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday, June 29.

The parties Naim entered into the MoU with are Miri City Council in Sarawak; Guangzhou Panyu Economy and Trade Promotion Bureau of Guangzhou; and Institute of Digital Guangdong (IDG) from China.

They will collaborate to explore the prospect of developing PMSC and to create and maintain a special information super-highway link between the smart cities of Panyu and Miri with “mirror” computer servers to be hosted in both cities, which users in both places can use for community-linked projects, the announcement said.

Guangzhou Panyu Economy and Trade Promotion Bureau of Guangzhou was set up to implement and monitor the economic and trade policies, as well as to support the development of business enterprises in the province of Guangzhou.

IDG is a research and planning institution, and think-tank development organisation in both information and communication technologies (ICT) infrastructure for South China. It also consults on the commercialisation of digital concepts, homes, buildings and cities with extensive connections with various provinces in South China including Guangdong province, as well as district planning councils towards developing digital societies and lifestyles.

Miri City Council is responsible for managing the development of Miri city and has jurisdiction of about 997.43 sq km. Miri is the second largest and youngest city in Sarawak with well-planned infrastructure.

Naim is a construction and property developer in Malaysia, where most of its operations are in.
