Earlier, Muhyiddin held a special Cabinet meeting, which lasted about three hours, at the Perdana Putra building in Putrajaya.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof was reported to have said that Muhyiddin was expected to make a special announcement today.

Based on the government's target of having 80% of the population fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to achieve herd immunity, the country will need to have about 26 million people completing their two-dose vaccination.

Senior Minister of Education Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said the current situation in states, including the vaccination rate and the capacity of health facilities, must be taken into consideration before making any decision on the reopening of schools.

This, he said, was achieved through an average daily vaccination rate of almost 400,000, surpassing its target of 300,000 daily doses in July.

The people allowed to travel to Langkawi will only be limited to individuals who have received full vaccination.

Selangor continued to be the largest contributor today with 7,307 new infections, followed by Sabah (1,665), Kedah (1,596) and Johor (1,508).

Mohd Redzuan, the member of parliament for Alor Gajah in Melaka, said the meeting discussed the direction for the party if Muhyiddin resigns as the prime minister.
