The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project remains unaffected even though Japanese firms have withdrawn from involvement in the construction of the project, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Japanese firms have decided to drop their plans to get involved in a high-speed rail project connecting Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, government and company sources said on Thursday.

The government is satisfied with the work progress of the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project between Johor Bahru and Singapore and is confident that the transport system will be fully operational on Jan 1, 2027.
