PUTRAJAYA (Jan 19): The two “Datuks” held by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) (pictured) to assist investigations into alleged corruption over the Penang undersea tunnel project were released on bail today, Bernama reported.
The two men were detained separately here and in Penang on Jan 9 and remanded for six days from Jan 10 by the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court and the George Town Magistrate's Court. Their remand was later extended by five days.
Magistrate Aida Kharuleen Azli ordered that the 59-year-old senior executive director of a consortium company and the 50-year-old deputy chairman of a property development firm be released on RM200,000 bail each, Bernama reported.
Last week, the MACC swooped on four Penang state government agencies and three companies in relation to the tunnel project.
The graft busters raided the offices of the Penang Public Works Department, Penang State Secretary, the Penang Office of Lands and Mines and the Penang Valuation and Property Services Department, while the three companies raided were Ewein-Zenith Sdn Bhd, 555 Capital Sdn Bhd, and Consortium Zenith.
The two “Datuks” were nabbed after the raids on the same day.
