KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 13): Property developer UOA Development Bhd (KL:UOADEV) has re-designated chairman Kong Pak Lim as its new managing director effective August 13.

Kong will now oversee planning and design of commercial and residential projects, as well as land acquisitions, UOA Development said in an exchange filing. Trained as an engineer, he brings over 47 years of experience in construction, mining and property development in Malaysia and Australia.

He is formally taking on the role from co-founder Kong Chong Soon @ Chi Suim, more commonly known as CS Kong, who died at the age of 85 on May 27.

UOA Development’s flagship is Bangsar South, a 60-acre project transforming Kampung Kerinchi into an integrated residential, commercial and lifestyle hub. Last year, the company ventured outside the Klang Valley for the first time with a one-acre development in Johor Bharu.

The company has named Singaporean national Kong Sze Choon — son of CS Kong but unrelated to Pak Lim — as its chairman.

Sze Choon currently serves as CEO of UOA Real Estate Investment Trust (KL:UOAREIT).

He first joined UOA in 2002, handling leasing, sales, marketing and business development across commercial and residential developments. Prior to joining the group, he managed investment portfolios for high-net-worth individuals at financial institutions in Singapore.

Shares of UOA Development were up one sen or 0.61% to RM1.65 on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM4.4 billion.
