Staying in Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya during the Chinese New Year?
They say it’s the best time to be in the city — the only traffic you will encounter is of the human kind, in the many malls in the Klang Valley.
If you’re sien of eating, losing your ang pow money at gambling, variety shows on the TV, just talking to your relatives, or napping, head out to these eight malls and admire the décor instead.
While the traditional auspicious colours of red and gold along with old-fashioned Chinese architecture predominate, they each have a unique take on the festive season.
For example, Mid Valley Megamall’s bright pagoda-shaped giant birdcage-like structures woven with oversized blossoms are the perfect maximalist foil to its sister mall The Gardens’ dark, minimalist fringe lanterns and cosy 1920s Shanghai-inspired furnishings.
Likewise, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s spectacular entrance — a dense canopy of wisteria blooms that hang alluringly — is Instagram-worthy.
