KUALA LUMPUR (June 21): There is no need to replace Penang’s councillors for the time being.

The state’s Local Government, Housing and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo (pictured) explained that this is because their term would end soon, reported StarMetro.

“The term for the councillors will end this month and there is no need to have a specific number of councillors at any certain time.

“We are now carrying out meetings to decide on who will replace the former councillors.

“They will be appointed next month,” he told the media in Komtar, Penang yesterday.

StarMetro also reported Jagdeep saying that the “status quo of having representatives from political parties and NGOs as councillors would be maintained”.

There are councillors in Penang Island City Council and Seberang Prai Municipal Council who contested and won in the recent GE14.
