KOTA KINABALU (July 24): The number of dengue cases recorded in Sabah up to July 21 of this year has risen to 1,791. In the corresponding period last year, 1,125 cases were reported. This marks an increase of 666 cases this year.
Twelve districts out of the 26 in the state reported an increase in dengue cases, said Sabah health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi, reported Bernama.
"Four districts with a high number of cases were Kota Kinabalu with 491 cases, Tawau (357), Kunak (202) and Lahad Datu (178)," she told Bernama today.
Dr Christina said that the number of fatal cases in the corresponding period last year had been four. This year, the number has risen to 15.
The news agency reported that she urged the people to maintain the cleanliness of their environments, and take preventative measures to halt the breeding of the Aedes mosquito.
