KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): Suspects in graft cases will no longer be required to wear the bright orange attire when they are brought to court.

In a statement today, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the practice has been discontinued.

"This is in line with the presumption of innocence and Article 5(1) of the Federal Constitution.

"While the MACC is uncompromising in eradicating corruption, in doing so we will at all times uphold the rule of law," she said.

Latheefa said handcuffs are used only where necessary, for example where there is a risk of escape or aggressive behaviour.

"However, handcuff usage is not permitted within the confines of any courtroom," she added.
