PETALING JAYA (Nov 7): Basis Bay has opened the world’s first purpose-built Eco-Green Premium Data Centre in Cyberjaya DC2.
The facility, developed through a joint investment between Basis Bay and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), was officiated by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo (pictured) and represents a significant milestone in the country’s digital blueprint.
Cyberjaya DC2 is designed to meet TIA-942 Rated-4 and ISO 27001 standards—the highest global benchmarks for data centre performance and security.
Basis Bay said the new facility is built upon four key pillars: data sovereignty; cyber availability; security; and, eco-green sustainability. These principles underpin its mission to deliver world-class, secure data infrastructure, catering especially to banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) institutions.

Having introduced Asia’s first green data centre in 2009, Basis Bay continues its legacy of sustainable innovation. Cyberjaya DC2 advances this vision with LEED Gold and GBI Gold certifications and is actively pursuing Platinum recognition by 2026.
The facility incorporates vertical greenery, solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting and high-efficiency cooling systems, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.49, surpassing international sustainability standards. These solutions align with Basis Bay’s long-term goal of promoting clean IT and green IT, embedding environmental responsibility into digital infrastructure design.
To ensure data integrity and physical protection, the centre employs a multi-layered defence-in-depth approach that includes anti-climb and electrical fencing, bollards, bulletproof windows and a dry moat.

Entry is strictly controlled using biometric authentication, x-ray scanners, walkthrough metal detectors and pandemic-ready private lifts, establishing multiple layers of verification before accessing sensitive zones.
Cyberjaya DC2 is also engineered with redundant power, cooling and network systems to guarantee uninterrupted operations.
Its cybersecurity frameworks are capable of detecting and neutralising threats such as denial-of-service (DoS) and cyberwarfare attacks, enabling continuous uptime even during regional power instabilities or global incidents.
Moreover, Basis Bay has launched the Basis Bay Data Centre Foundation Certificate (BBDCFC) in collaboration with Universiti Malaya, the country’s first data centre foundation programme developed by an operator.
The course, accredited and HRD Corp claimable, aims to nurture homegrown data-centre professionals while extending opportunities to underprivileged groups through MySkills Foundation and ADTEC Kuala Langat (JTM).
The initiative forms part of Basis Bay’s effort to support Malaysia’s broader digital economy by equipping local talent with skills for future-ready industries
Basis Bay has also partnered with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd to secure a sustainable water supply for its operations.
Air Selangor will provide 43,710 litres per day (L/day) for the first of three development phases of Cyberjaya DC2, with additional supply planned for future phases.
“Air Selangor welcomes the Basis Bay Data Centre project as a key long-term partnership that supports a locally owned enterprise and reflects our commitment to enabling sustainable growth and supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation,” said Adam Saffian Ghazali, CEO of Air Selangor.
“As the largest water services provider in Malaysia, Air Selangor remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering high-impact developments through reliable and sustainable water supply, driving Malaysia’s progress toward a resilient and digitally advanced future.”
