SHAH ALAM (Dec 5): Eighteen families affected by the gas pipeline fire incident at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya on April 1 yesterday received the keys of their rebuilt homes.

The 18 families from Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru had their badly damaged homes rebuilt by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), via Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB).

SPNB was appointed as the implementing agency for the repair and reconstruction of the 18 houses, involving an allocation of RM4.85 million.

The key handover ceremony to the impacted families was officiated by the Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming.

“On 1 April 2025, we were all shocked by the gas pipeline fire tragedy at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor—an incident that became a national tragedy and required immediate action.

“Following this incident, the MADANI Government acted swiftly to address the issue and bring new hope to the affected victims. At the same time, KPKT activated the National Housing Disaster Trust Fund, aimed at collecting funds to assist victims who lost their homes due to disasters. Through this mechanism, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) established strategic cooperation—including with private parties—to repair and rebuild the affected homes,” said Nga at the event.

“In line with this effort, SPNB was entrusted with carrying out the reconstruction works in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru starting from May 1, 2025.

“I am pleased to inform you that the repair, reconstruction, and cleaning works in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru have been successfully carried out,” added Nga.

During the same event, Nga also highlighted the achievements of the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme implemented by SPNB. The event witnessed the Launch of the MyRMR Application, a new digital initiative featuring two main modules (Applicant and SPNB Officer) to streamline the application, monitoring, and management processes of the RMR programme more efficiently.

SPNB had already surpassed its original target of building 23,000 RMR units for 2025, with an allocation of RM1.92 billion. The MADANI Government subsequently increased the allocation to RM2.13 billion to build 26,272 RMR units to meet the housing needs of low-income citizens. As of October 2025, a total of 74,957 RMR units had been successfully completed nationwide.

“Congratulations once again to SPNB on this highly commendable achievement,” said Nga.
