KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 19): The government has agreed to provide a 50% discount on the normal toll rate for two days, on Dec 23 and 24, to private vehicle users in conjunction with the Christmas celebration.

This toll discount is given to Class 1 vehicles (Class 2 on the Penang Bridge) at all toll plazas except the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll Plaza, North-South Expressway (PLUS), and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza, Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway (Linkedua).

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pictured) in a statement said the government will bear the financial implications estimated at RM20.65 million to pay compensation to all highway concessionaires involved.

"It is hoped that the toll discount will ease travel cost burden for people planning to return to their hometowns or go on holiday with their families, in line with the government's desire to help people of various religions and beliefs," he said.

He said the selection of toll discount dates is also aimed at dispersing festive season and school holiday traffic and optimising highway operations at rest and service areas.

Highway users are advised to plan their journeys using the LLM TuJu highway navigation app and MyPLUS-TTA, as well as complying with travel time advisories, speed limits, signs and regulations on the highway to ensure safe travel.

They can check traffic status or any incidents via the Malaysian Highway Authority's (LLM) official social media accounts on Facebook, X @LLMtrafik, TikTok @llmtrafik, or contact the LLM traffic management centre at 1-800-88-7752.
