PETALING JAYA (April 17): Sunway Construction Group Bhd (SunCon) has secured a RM1.75 billion contract to construct a hyperscale data centre in Bandar Serendah, Selangor, awarded by an international hyperscaler.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing today (April 17), SunCon said its wholly-owned subsidiary Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd (SCSB) entered into the construction agreement on April 17, 2026.

The build-only contract covers core and shell structures, campus infrastructure, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) fit-out works.

Construction is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2026, with completion targeted by the third quarter of 2028.

SunCon said the project is not expected to have any immediate material effect on its earnings per share, net assets per share or gearing for the financial year ending 2026, but is expected to contribute positively to the group's earnings from financial year 2026 onwards until completion.

The identity of the international hyperscaler has not been disclosed.

The latest award brings SunCon's total outstanding order book to RM8.7 billion. New contracts secured year-to-date now stand at RM3.0 billion, of which the Bandar Serendah data centre forms part.

SunCon said the project is subject to normal construction risks including material price fluctuations, which it expects to mitigate through SCSB's experience and expertise.

None of SunCon's directors or major shareholders has any direct or indirect interest in the project.
