PETALING JAYA (May 8): Premier lifestyle property developer Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) has completed The Meg, its first development within the Andaman Island township, marking a milestone in the group’s vision for sustainable waterfront living in Penang.
Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said Andaman Island is envisioned as a next-generation township that enhances the way people live, work, and connect.
“Developments like The Meg contribute to a more inclusive and liveable Penang, while supporting the state’s broader aspirations for sustainable urban growth and community well-being,” he said at the event commemorating the achievement on Thursday.

E&O managing director Kok Tuck Cheong explained The Meg represents the first pulse of life on Andaman Island, transforming the vision from blueprint into a thriving, eco-conscious community.
“We aim to develop a sustainable township that will eventually be home to approximately 30,000 residents by 2030. With the strong response to The Meg and the successful opening of the Gurney Bridge, we are confident that Andaman will redefine waterfront living in Penang.
“Building on this momentum, E&O currently has six ongoing developments under its 30-year master plan, including AVÉA, Maris, and the Lume, each designed to meet evolving lifestyle needs,” he was quoted saying in a press statement.
Launched in 2022 with a gross development value (GDV) of RM691 million, The Meg comprises 1,020 freehold serviced apartment units and 14 retail units.
Designed with practical and contemporary layouts for millennials and young families, the development achieved full take-up within a short timeframe, reflecting strong market confidence in E&O’s vision, the company stated.

As a master-planned development, Andaman Island integrates urban sophistication with ecological preservation, laying the foundation for a sustainable waterfront community.
The Andaman Island Phase 1 master plan received the GreenRE Provisional Platinum Certification in 2023, making it Malaysia’s first township master plan to achieve the distinction.
Among E&O’s ongoing developments, AVÉA is its latest serviced apartment offering, with the first tower recently launched following Maris. Located along a promenade near the marina, AVÉA focuses on sustainability, walkability and community-centric living.
A key highlight of the milestone was the recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records for the “Widest Box Girder Bridge in Malaysia”, awarded for the Gurney Bridge at Andaman Island.Looking ahead, E&O plans to introduce curated commercial offerings by end-2027 to further enhance Andaman Island’s vibrancy and position it as one of Penang’s progressive waterfront destinations.
