PETALING JAYA (June 12): Sime Darby Property Bhd’s Elmina Lakeside Mall has won the World Gold Award in the Retail category at the 2026 FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards.

The awards, held in Vienna, Austria recently, was organised by the International Real Estate Federation (Fiabci). It recognises real estate developments across various categories and is judged by an international panel of industry professionals.

Located within the City of Elmina township in Selangor, Elmina Lakeside Mall is an open-air retail development spanning 52 acres across nine blocks of single- and double-storey buildings. The mall offers approximately 214,000 sq ft of net lettable retail space, and serves as the commercial centre of the 350-acre Elmina City Centre.

According to Sime Darby Property in a press statement today, the mall reached full occupancy within eight months of its soft opening in August 2024. Today the mall serves a catchment population of 870,000 population from a 20-minute radius, which is projected to surpass one million in the next decade.

The development incorporates retail, leisure and community spaces, including indoor and outdoor event areas, a lakeside promenade, and direct connectivity to the adjoining 35-acre urban park.

Group managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Azmir Merican said the award recognises the group’s approach to integrating retail, recreation, community spaces and nature within its township developments.

The mall has obtained GreenRE Silver certification, while its sales gallery achieved GreenRE Platinum certification. Sustainability features include solar-ready roofing, LED lighting, water-efficient fittings, electric vehicle charging bays and bicycle-friendly accessibility.

The international award follows Elmina Lakeside Mall’s win in the Retail category at the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2025, which qualified the development to represent Malaysia at the global awards programme.
