KUALA LUMPUR (June 14): The abandoned blocks of the Highland Towers condominium in Hulu Kelang will be demolished before the end of the year, after a Magistrates’ Court decision allowed the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to proceed with the action.
According to a report by Harian Metro, MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said the court approved the council’s application last week, allowing for the demolition of the structures that have stood vacant for more than three decades.
“We will organise a coordination meeting involving the unit owners, represented by the developer, and the insolvency authorities.
“We do not expect this matter to take much longer because it is now clear to all parties that this is the agreed objective,” said Hasrolnizam.
Two of the three-block complex was abandoned following the collapse of Tower One on Dec 11, 1993, due to a major landslide which killed 48 people.
Forty-eight people perished in the incident and just three were rescued alive from the collapsed structure.
