KUALA LUMPUR (June 24): Selangor Industrial Corporation Sdn Bhd (SIC), a unit of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), has secured a new partner to develop data centres in Cyberjaya, 10 months after withdrawing from its previous project with telecommunications services provider Silver Ridge Holdings Bhd (KL:SRIDGE).

In a statement on Tuesday, SIC said it plans to develop a 65-megawatt (MW) data centre in Cyberjaya with an estimated investment of RM2.5 billion with Data Centre Union Sdn Bhd (DC Union).

In August 2025, SIC withdrew from a joint venture with Silver Ridge to build six data centres in Cyberjaya with Silver Ridge. The project was to be developed on an eight-acre site in Cyberjaya owned by PKNS.

SIC pulled out then, saying it couldn’t get the required lease approvals, board resolution, or power of attorney from PKNS for the eight-acre parcel.

This latest project will be undertaken by SIC Quantum Data Centre Sdn Bhd (SQDC), a joint venture between SIC and DC Union.

Under the partnership, SIC will leverage its Cyberjaya landbank and development capabilities, while DC Union will contribute technical expertise, funding and industry know-how. The venture also aims to train at least 500 Nvidia-certified engineers annually to support rising demand in AI, cloud computing and data centre operations.

PKNS said in a statement that the facility will deploy full immersion cooling technology to improve energy efficiency over conventional data centres. The project marks the group’s first foray into data centre development as it taps growth in digital infrastructure and high-tech sectors.

A check on the Companies Commission of Malaysia showed that DC Union provides data hosting infrastructure, data processing and ICT security services, and is equally-owned by VJVS Group Sdn Bhd and Robust HPC Sdn Bhd.

VJVS Group is controlled by Vinodh Mariappa, who has been appointed managing director of the project, while Robust HPC is 90%-owned by Yeep Teck Ann and 10% by Yeep Teck Cheng.

SIC group chief executive officer Saharom Mohni said in the statement that the data centre project will support the Selangor Smart State agenda by providing secure and resilient digital infrastructure for public and private sector users, adding that it marks a strategic step into high-growth digital industries.

Meanwhile, DC Union chief executive officer Tecsun Yeep said the collaboration positions Malaysia to strengthen its role as a regional artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure hub, with a focus on building a broader digital ecosystem spanning talent development and innovation.
