Selangor moves to replace 55.4-acre Malay reserve plot earmarked for SABDA

PETALING JAYA (Sept 22): Selangor is moving to gazette 22.41ha (55.4 acres) in Hulu Selangor as Malay reserve land to replace an equal-sized parcel in Tanjong Karang earmarked for the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA).

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pictured) said the Tanjong Karang parcel was the subject of a gazette notice published on Sept 3 removing its Malay reserve status.

The replacement parcel in Hulu Selangor is still undergoing gazettement, Amirudin said in a statement carried by Bernama on Tuesday (Sept 22). He was responding to questions over the status of Malay reserve land in Sabak Bernam.

Article 89(3) of the Federal Constitution requires the state authority, when land ceases to be a Malay reservation, to immediately declare as Malay reserve other land of a similar character and not exceeding the area of the affected land.

Amirudin did not disclose the lot and title particulars, precise location, tenure or existing use of the replacement parcel. His statement also did not indicate when its gazettement would be completed or whether the state considered it to be of a similar character to the Tanjong Karang land.

He said Selangor’s total Malay reserve land had increased to 163,246.54ha, or about 403,391 acres, from 162,161.98ha in 2018. He put the increase under the present administration at 1,084.55ha, or about 2,680 acres.

However, the latest total is about 1,497ha lower than the 164,743.9577ha reported by the state government in a written Selangor State Assembly reply in July 2025. The earlier figure represented 20.753% of Selangor’s land area.

The official disclosures did not explain the difference. The figures may reflect different reporting dates, datasets or accounting treatments.

SABDA is a state economic programme led by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) to develop northern Selangor, focusing on food security, agriculture, fisheries, ecotourism and agrotourism.
