The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project and two projects under the finance ministry (MoF) unit Suria Strategic Energy Resources Sdn Bhd (SSER), namely the Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) and the Trans-Sabah Gas Pipeline (TSGP) projects, have been instructed to suspend all works with immediate effect.

“We will have to check and see if there is anything fishy or dubious in the contract.

The company said it regrets that the suspension order comes at this juncture, where “substantial work has been progressing well”.

Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah confirmed that the gag order also applies to social media, and that failure to do so will result in contempt of court. 

“A gag order on the media is against media freedom and would punish the local media but not foreign media, as that is outside the court’s powers.”

Thomas also dismissed claims that the charges pressed against Najib is a political manoeuvre against the former premier.

Najib's defence team asked that bail for the former premier to be set at RM500,000-RM800,000, and for it to be satisfied with the deed of his residence along Jalan Langgak Duta.

Chants of “Melayu” and “bebas Najib” were hurled at the AG by supporters of the former prime minister, who had gathered in solidarity with Najib at the court since early morning.
