SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO

PETALING JAYA (July 18): Videos of a rat running wild in the bakery of a hypermarket in Shah Alam has gone viral, forcing the place to shut down for a thorough cleansing.

The videos were originally posted by Facebook user Alia Ismail and have since been spread through the social media platform.

She had spotted the giant rodent scurrying among the buns while shopping with her son on Monday night, reported Free Malaysia Today.

She had reported the incident to the Selangor Health Department, which had ordered the hypermarket to close.

The hypermarket was closed at 7.30pm yesterday for rectification works to prevent similar cases in future and will reopen at noon tomorrow.

The Star reported that the hypermarket had apologised for the incident and stressed that food safety and quality are its "utmost priority".

"We take all complaints seriously. We would like to reassure all our customers that this is an isolated incident, and we have taken immediate action to address this issue, including destroying all the bakery items on display," said a spokesperson.

Moreover, all of its stores have gone through routine pest-control maintenance, he added.
