KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pictured) has welcomed the royal decree issued by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, regarding the historical significance, future development, and direction of Kampung Baru.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Anwar said the Sultan’s views are fully aligned with the government’s commitment to preserving national heritage while ensuring fair and balanced development.

“The government firmly believes that every decision must be rooted in the well-being of the people and the preservation of community identity.

“As the chairman of the National Affordable Housing Council, I remain committed to ensuring that every development genuinely benefits the people, without compromising their dignity, rights, and history, all of which are matters of national importance,” he said.

The prime minister's statement comes in response to Sultan Sharafuddin’s earlier statement calling for careful and respectful handling of the Kampung Sungai Baru issue, with priority given to the interests of the Malays.
