PETALING JAYA (Sept 15): Wolo Hotel & Residences in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur has won two Gold awards at the 12th CREDAWARD in Shanghai, China.

Wolo Hotel & Residences was the only Malaysian project shortlisted this year, and the first Malaysian project to receive a Gold recognition based on CREDAWARD’s published records, said its developer Magma Group Bhd in a statement on Monday (Sept 14).

The project received Gold in the Future (Concept) Project — Residential Project Under Construction category for its architectural concept by Bangkok-based Openbox Architects Co Ltd.

Its exhibition centre, known as the Wolo Experience Lounge, secured a second Gold award in the Demonstration Area Interior Design category for its interior design by Singapore-based 932 Design Group.

Magma Property Sdn Bhd, the property development arm of Magma Group, also received the Industry Contribution Award in connection with the project.

RM850m development

Wolo Hotel & Residences is a 60-storey hospitality-led development comprising 378 private branded residences, 98 serviced suites and a 63-room boutique hotel, together with wellness and lifestyle facilities, dining outlets and hospitality services.

The project is being developed by Magma Kiara Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of main market-listed Magma Group, on a 2.26-acre site along Persiaran Dutamas.

It has an estimated gross development value of about RM850 million and is targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of 2030.

The architectural concept incorporates greenery, open spaces and human-centred areas into the high-rise development. Prospective buyers can view the project’s materials, ambience and hospitality-led residential concept in The Wolo Experience Lounge.

The development expands the Wolo brand beyond Wolo KL, the group’s boutique hotel in Bukit Bintang, into branded residences.

Its boutique hotel is planned to operate as a member of Design Hotels, which participates in the Marriott Bonvoy programme.

The project involves consultants from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, China, Australia, Germany, Italy and the UK, and adopts the design concept of “Quiet Opulence”.

International recognition

Magma Group managing director and CEO Datuk Sri Thomas Liang Chee Fong said the awards recognised the project’s design vision and the international collaboration behind it.

“We were recognised alongside projects involving some of the world’s most established architectural and design practices. This demonstrates that a Malaysian-born hospitality brand, supported by international design collaboration, can stand confidently on the global stage,” he said.

Liang said the project seeks to bring architecture, interiors and hospitality together to improve the experience of residential living.

CREDAWARD, also known as the China Real Estate Design Award, was established by DJSER in China in 2014.

According to the organiser, this year’s edition received 935 submissions from 271 organisations. International projects accounted for 10.41% of shortlisted entries, up 4.52% points from the previous edition. Entries are assessed on architectural aesthetics, environmental sustainability, user experience and economic efficiency.
